Cardiac Rehab for a Healthier Heart
Heart trouble can be a wake-up call. If you have experienced heart attack, heart failure, angioplasty, congenital heart failure, heart valve repair, coronary artery bypass or other heart surgery, it’s important to improve your heart health moving forward. Cherokee Regional Medical Center’s Cardiac Rehab Program can help you with the skills and support you need to achieve a better, stronger future for your heart.
Cardiac rehab is a planned and medically supervised program of exercise and education to help you get back to enjoying life or improve your quality of life. The two-phase program provides three sessions a week, each about an hour long.
In-Patient and Outpatient Cardiac Rehab
Phase 1 of rehabilitation begins when you’re admitted to the hospital for heart attack, bypass surgery, angioplasty or other cardiac illness. This in-patient phase includes education and counseling for you and your family, combined with monitored physical activity.
We will help you with:
- Understanding heart anatomy and function
- Making changes to reduce coronary risk factors
- Managing stress
- Healthy eating habits
- Medications
- Exercising properly
When you’re ready to move to outpatient rehabilitation, Phase 2 of the program focuses on helping you and your family recover from the physical and emotional effects of your cardiac illness. Education continues around reducing risk factors, making lifestyle changes and setting goals. Exercise sessions continue and progressively rebuild your strength.
