CHEROKEE, Iowa – Cherokee Regional Medical Center (Cherokee Regional) is pleased to announce that Hillary Anderson was recently honored with The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.
According to her nominator, “Hillary offers unwavering support and care without any expectations in return. Her commitment to her work is unparalleled, and she consistently pours her heart and soul into providing the best possible care.”
Anderson’s tenure with Cherokee Regional started in 2009 when she worked as a nurse for Cherokee Medical Clinic until 2021. She has been a home health nurse since 2022. Anderson received her nursing degree from Hawkeye Community College. She currently resides in Cherokee with her husband Luke and two children, Noah and Sophia. Hillary is the 8th Daisy Award Recipient for Cherokee Regional.
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
Said Bonnie Barnes, FAAN, Doctor of Humane Letters (h.c) and Co-Founder of The DAISY Foundation, “When Patrick was critically ill, our family experienced first-hand the remarkable skill and care nurses provide patients every day and night. Yet these unsung heroes are seldom recognized for the super-human work they do. The kind of work the nurses at Cherokee Regional are called on to do every day epitomizes the purpose of The DAISY Award.”
“Hillary is so deserving of this recognition,” says Angela Friedrich, Vice President of Clinical Services/CNO at Cherokee Regional. “She had multiple nominations this year and the committee had a tough decision. We are so proud of all of our nurses here at Cherokee Regional.”
