Cherokee Regional Medical Center (Cherokee Regional) is pleased to announce that Maria Swisher, MSN, PMHNP-BC, has joined the medical staff at Cherokee Regional and will provide virtual mental health services to Cherokee Regional Medical Clinic patients.
Swisher received her Associate in Science in Nursing degree from Southeastern Community College in Burlington, Iowa, in 2016. She continued her education at Walden University in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 2017.
Further, Swisher received a Master of Science in Nursing degree from Maryville University in St. Louis, Missouri, in 2020 before practicing as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
“Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being,” explains Swisher. “Early intervention reduces the risks of chronic diseases related to anxiety, stress, and substance abuse. Furthermore, mental health treatment empowers us to navigate challenges, build meaningful relationships, and destigmatize how we think about, approach, and identify mental health issues in our society.”
Swisher and her family reside in Cedar Rapids where they enjoy spending time outdoors. Her focus will be providing mental health services to Cherokee Regional patients via telehealth in the Cherokee Medical Clinic.
“I believe that each person deserves individualized care,” claims Swisher. “My goal is to improve access and quality of psychiatric services in rural communities through a holistic patient-centered approach. I will provide psychopharmacologic management while creating a collaborative relationship with a diverse patient population.”
Gary Jordan, CEO/ President of Cherokee Regional Medical Center is excited to bring these unique services to Cherokee Regional and Cherokee Medical Clinic.
“Maria will be a great asset to our organization,” says Jordan. “Mental health is a vital part to the well-being of our physical health. We are excited to be able to provide quality mental health services to our patients here at Cherokee Medical Clinic.”
Swisher will begin seeing patients on Monday, September 11, 2023. To learn more about her services or to schedule an appointment, call Cherokee Medical Clinic at 712.225.6265.
