Your Partner in Diabetes Care

Diabetes Self Management Training (DSMT) programs are available at Cherokee Regional Medical Center to help you gain the knowledge and skills needed to control your diabetes. Training sessions focus on the seven areas of self-care that are essential for improved health and greater quality of life.

  • Problem solving
  • Healthy coping
  • Reducing risks

Educational Programs

  • Diabetes Sessions
    • A comprehensive training program designed for those newly diagnosed or those who have never been through a formal training program. This program consists of an initial assessment and three group training sessions.
  • Gestational Diabetes
    • A program designed for the mommy with pregnancy-induced diabetes. This program consists of an initial assessment and individual sessions held throughout the remaining weeks of pregnancy.
  • Insulin Instruction
    • Individual training for those beginning insulin therapy or adjusting their insulin dose. This program consists of individual sessions and may be completed in addition to the Diabetes program.
    • Insulin pump training and continuous glucose monitor for eligible participants.
  • Diabetes Update
    • Individual training for those who have been through a comprehensive program but need or want an update on current diabetes care practices. This program consists of individual training sessions.
  • Pre-Diabetes Education
    • A group program for those at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. This program consists of a one time 2 hour program focusing on lifestyle changes for diabetes prevention.

We also provide insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor training for the following devices:

  • Medtronic 780 G insulin pump and Guardian 4 CGM with SmartGuard technology
  • Tandem T-slim X2 insulin pump with Control IQ technology
  • Tandem Mobi insulin pump
  • Omnipod 5 Wireless insulin pump
  • Dexcom G7 CGM
  • Freestyle Libre 3 CGM

Participation in Diabetes Self Management Training may be covered by insurance with a physician order. Please contact your insurance carrier to determine coverage before starting a training program.
